The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Maryland's Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Senator Lee's office, and the C&O Canal are hosting a fishing derby to prevent the spread of invasive Northern Snakehead fish throughout the canal and upper Potomac River system. 

The derby, rescheduled from May 21, will be held on Saturday, June 11th from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm.  Participants will register at Pennyfield Lock and will be able to fish between Pennyfield and Violette's Locks.  We will be offering fish print t-shirts for youth, door prizes and give-a-ways, and prizes for largest fish and other categories.  State and Federal biologists will also be holding a fish sampling and identification demonstration at Pennyfield.  Additional information can be found here:
